CIBSE has drafted an action plan in response to the challenge laid down by Environment Minister Michael Meacher at the end of last year.
The draft document includes many specific future actions including commitments to:

  • participate in the development of any sectoral sustainability action plan for building services, including in relation to benchmarking and indicators of progress
  • contribute to the evolution and application of new technologies
  • ensure a reduction in carbon emissions is embedded in the content of all future CIBSE publications

Meacher's comments on the draft have been positive. In a letter to Richard John, chief executive of CIBSE, the Minister comments: "I am very pleased to read such a comprehensive set of actions. I particularly welcome the renewed emphasis on the long-term professionalism of the Institution and its members."

The next step is for CIBSE committees to share their views on the document, which will then be presented in its final form to Michael Meacher.
