The Construction Industry Computing Association is to conduct a study into software companies that claim to offer integration of back office systems.
The study will investigate how estimating, accounting and valuation systems can be integrated into one system and examine the systems that already claim to do this.

CICA managing director Ian Hamilton said that integration is the holy grail of IT for contractors, but that they are being led astray by software companies. "There is a lot of interest from contractors in this area, and there are a lot of companies claiming they offer integrated systems, but to our knowledge no general contractor is using one at present," Hamilton said.

The study is part of the DETR's Partners in Innovation programme. The CICA expects to report back to the DETR in the next 12 to 24 months.
