The industry accreditation

(‘Grandfather Rights’) period for Electro-Technical Certification Scheme cards will end on 6 February 2006. The scheme requires that all personnel working on construction sites operated by members of the Major Contractors’ Group carry a recognised Health and Safety-related skills competency card.

All those who require a card and have not yet applied for one under Industry Accreditation by 6 February next year will need to have obtained an NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or at the very least have registered for the National Vocational Qualification) by that date. Renewal of cards obtained through Industry Accreditation post-February 2006 should not be a problem provided the card has not been allowed to lapse.

The cards are administered by the Joint Industry Board (JIB). The JIB has already advised companies to ensure that applications are sent in before November such that the predicted backlog is avoided. Any applications received by the JIB before 6 February next year will allow the sender to take advantage of Industry Accreditation.

At the present time there is little infrastructure in place to support any large increase in demand for NVQs. BSIA Member Companies should contact the Association on (tel) 01905 21464 if they are anticipating any increased need.

Non-Association Members in the same position should be looking to contact their own training provider(s).
