I was delighted to learn from this week's edition that BDP’s new IT based approach to design will make the traditional QS role redundant.

Anything that releases us from the minor remaining part of the QS role that involves measurement and allows us to focus more on delivering value to clients at a strategic level is to be welcomed.

That will leave us able to concentrate on key issues such as sustainability, covered in the same edition.

BDP’s system should also be able to give us the real answer on how to measure the length of a hip rafter. Can we ask it so we can close off the long running debate in your letters column?
