Construction Computing has launched the construction industry's first-ever awards scheme entirely dedicated to e-commerce excellence.
The awards recognise the amazing progress made by the construction industry in embracing e-commerce. The past year alone has seen the launch of a dozen portals, from trading exchanges such as Mercadium to collaboration portals such as the Building Information Warehouse. Now almost every contractor, consultant and developer has a website, whether they adopt the "shop front" approach to internet service or actually conduct online trading.

Readers are invited to nominate their favourite websites and portals for an award. There is a special prize for the best idea for an e-construction business. Just email construction_manager@buildergroup.co.uk for details or with nominations.

The awards will be held in London to coincide with Built Environment 2001 – a new exhibition and conference for the construction industry that will be held at the Excel centre in the Docklands on 16-18 October. Built Environment 2001 includes the AEC systems show - the industry's leading exhibition for computer equipment, software and ideas. The show will feature a conference on e-commerce backed by the Construction Products Association.

Sponsors are also being sought to support the awards scheme.
