Construction orders in 2007 rose by 1% compared with 2006, according to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).
Orders in the fourth quarter were up 2% compared with the same quarter a year earlier, and rose by 2% compared with the previous quarter, with increases in all sectors except public non-housing and private commercial orders. Private housing orders in 2007 fell by 6% compared with 2006, but public housing and housing association orders rose by 7% in 2007. Infrastructure orders rose by 24% compared with 2006. However, public non-housing orders (excluding infrastructure) in 2007 rose by only 5%. Private commercial orders in 2007 were 2% higher than in 2006 and private industrial orders fell by 12%.
From this month, collection of construction statistics will transfer to the Office for National Statistics.
