The fifth edition of Contracting for engineering and construction projects has been published by Gower.
Aimed at purchasing and contracts staff, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers and legal advisers, it has been brought up-to-date to reflect changes in case law and legislation, in particular the passing of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
This practical guide is split into three sections covering contract planning, tendering and placing the contract, and terms and condition of contract. It considers contract administration and deals with both the preparation and the appraisal of tenders and describes how to draft key clauses in a contract to ensure the maximum advantage.
The book also details the amendments to model forms of contract conditions, in particular the new PACE forms of Government contracts.
Types of contracts covered include construction of buildings and civil engineering works, the supply and installation of mechanical, electrical and process plants, as well as those for computer system and facilities management.
Different methods of contracting are covered including pfi schemes and reference is made to the Government's latest thinking on prime contracting.
The book includes three appendices covering: draft instructions to tenderers for a plant contract, a bid desirability questionnaire, and a questionnaire for site visits.
