Museum’s new site
The Natural History Museum has hired Turner & Townsend as QSs on the £40m Darwin Centre Phase 2 development. Work will commence in August 2005 and is expected to last 18 months. Rick Mather & Associates are the master planners and the architect is CF Moller.
PCM’s nuclear deal
Project manager PCM Safety has been appointed planning supervisor to Imperial College on a project to provide a centre of excellence for nuclear magnetic resonance research. The work involves redeveloping a building contaminated with asbestos on the Kensington campus.
Job centre gets facelift
Gordon Hutchinson is consulting on a £3.5m job from the London Borough of Southwark. New contractors Crisp Interiors had to be drafted in after the existing contractors walked off site. The building is an Access to Employment Centre designed by Architype.
Atkins’ £86m project
Atkins has won the project manager role on the construction of an £86m rapid transport scheme by Cambridgeshire County Council, which will run from Huntingdon to Cambridge. A contractor shortlist, which includes Balfour Beatty and Carillion, has been drawn up.
MAN ERF’s makeover
Banbury-based QS Hadland Manning Bullock & Partners has won the surveying contract on the refurbishment of MAN ERF’s headquarters in Swindon.
Gleeds bags uni contract
Gleeds has been hired as cost manager on two multi-million pound contracts at Bristol University. They are the £18m partial refurbishment of a chemistry block and the construction of £7m nanoscience and quantum information research facility.
AYH is Oxford-bound
Aylesbury College, Oxford, has appointed AYH as QSs on the redevelopment of its Oxford Road campus. The project budget is £28m and the manager is Turner & Townsend.
It’s all over for Lord’s
The refurbishment at Lord’s Cricket Ground, on which Davis Langdon was QS, has been completed within its £8.2m budget. MICE Sames was the contractor.
