Two qualifications created for the building controls industry to ensure a standard level of generic training will be administered by the ECA.
The 'Building Controls Industry Technical Certificate' and 'Building Controls Industry Advance Technical Certificate' have been launched by the Building Controls Group (BCG) and the Control Systems Specialists Group of ESTA.

"To date, controls training has been provided by individual manufacturers who have concentrated on the specifics of their products," explains BCG chair Terry Sharp. "A cohesive set of training modules that approaches building controls from a generic standpoint has not been widely available."

The course is based on BCG member Siemens Building Technologies' training materials and comprises six modules over three levels, with certification being awarded by examination. Experienced engineers can be exempt from the foundation course. Three advanced level modules are currently being developed. The course will be run at ECA regional centres and become part of its training programme.
