Trox UK has manufactured and supplied over 500 chilled beams for phase two of the Citygate project in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The recessed, passive beams have been installed throughout the 11 000 m2 multi-storey office development. They were supplied in five sizes – 1·5, 2, 3, 3·5 and 4 m, in eight staggered deliveries.

The original design involved open plan offices; when a number of cellular offices were added, the chilled beam specification changed. Trox’s flexible approcah enabled beams to be called off on a floor-by-floor basis, minimising redundant kit.

M&E contractor Balfour Kilpatrick specified the chilled beams.
