Steelmaker Corus has formed a £6m steel-frame business with housebuilder Redrow which will target the social housing sector.
Framing Solutions is an attempt by the two companies to combat the growing skills shortage in the construction industry, which is driving up project costs 5% to 10 % for some trades.

These increased costs are passed on to clients such as housing associations, so it is hoped that the new system of lightweight, factory-built frames will prove attractive to registered social landlords.

However a spokeswoman for Corus was unable to confirm any interest in the new venture’s products as yet.

Corus also produces modular housing units, which it hopes will be bought in conjunction with the steel frames.
