Waste management firm Cory Environmental has produced a free guide that helps businesses understand some of the complex new waste legislation and regulations that come into effect on 16 July.
The Landfill (England and Wales) Regulations 2002 and the Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000, in keeping with the EU Landfill Directive, and the introduction of Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC), affect what waste can be accepted in landfills.
From 16 July 2005, waste producers are no longer able to simply discard and disown their waste. Every business in England and Wales has a legal Duty of Care to ensure that their waste is disposed of responsibly.
The Cory document provides useful information for businesses on Waste Acceptance Criteria, the treatment of waste, the Hazardous Waste Regulations and the legislation on electrical and electronic equipment.
The four page leaflet, entitled Key Changes in Waste Legislation and Regulation is available as a free download from Cory’s website: www.coryenvironmental.co.uk. It includes details on the process that should be undertaken to classify waste as hazardous or non-hazardous and provides links to other helpful websites.
