Shrewsbury Council has implemented rapid deployment camera systems supplied by MEL Secure Systems.

The wireless Hawk system will be used in areas where there are high levels of anti-social behaviour, graffiti or environmental crime. Shrewsbury council Safety Partnership has bought two systems from MEL in conjunction with the Borough Council, police, and Severnside Housing. When deployed, the cameras will record 24 hours a day and either store the information or send it to a remote device for retrieval by police officers investigating reported crimes.

Dave Roberts, community safety officer for Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, said: "The cameras will provide members of the public with greater levels of reassurance and will provide important information for police investigations. They provide high levels of functionality and flexibility as they can even be deployed in remote locations, including outlying villages."

One of the first locations where the system will be deployed is Far East Garden Place in Ditherington.
