County councils do it too

I was surprised to read the letter last week from the reader surprised that "without warning, consultation or parliamentary activity, county councils have taken on housing responsibilities" ("Did I miss something?", 30 January, page 20).

As a former employee of Rutland County Council, I can confirm that there is at least one county (even if it is a small one) that does have a housing responsibility.
