Use of a cross-connect system achieved 75% space savings in a London architectural practice.
With rents for London offices at premium rates, it goes without saying that you can't afford to waste valuable space. Nordx/CDT, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cable Design Technologies, had this in mind when it provided the cabling infrastructure for architectural practice Hamilton Associates.

When asked for a design and build quotation, Annor, a NORDX certified system vendor, emphasised the need for the core IT infrastructure to have a minimum footprint. The company selected an IBDN installation that would allow space, and money, to be saved for other purposes. There was no question of compromising on performance though, as additional bandwidth was needed as a safeguard for future increases in graphic workstation workload and video conferencing applications

A Gigabix Cross-Connect system was proposed by Annor. This allowed a space saving of 75% compared to a traditional RJ45 installation, while exceeding the proposed Cat 6 standard. An 8 m2 area was allocated in the equipment room for the plant – enough room for the GigaBIX unit to be fitted and to support the 330 outlets and lan links needed.
