Partnering and customer focus go hand in hand, delegates at the HVCA Summit were told.
Deryk Eke, construction director at the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), pledged the Treasury's commitment to "do something about the affordability of construction".

The OGC will be managing a £11.5 bn procurement budget in 2001/02, rising to £19 bn in 2003, a "large percentage" of this being for construction. "The MoD and NHS are expecting a £600 million saving over 3 y from prime contracting, NHS Procure 21 and long-term relationships" said Eke.

"The partnering-based supply chain must be customer focussed, well resourced and competent" demanded Eke. "If we work this way we will have better profit margins, money to invest in training, and more schools and hospitals for our taxes".
