Krypton Health Construction and Controlled Flame Boilers have been referred to the Crown Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to failing to ensure their employees’ health and safety. The charges follow the death of a heating engineer on 10 April 2002.
Robert Burchett fell 9 m to his death from an unprotected ledge during the construction of an operating theatre at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in Stanmore. Following a Health and Safety Executive investigation both companies pleaded guilty to breaches of health and safety.
The maximum penalty at the City of London Magistrates Court were deemed inadequate.
