Three companies and a consortium have been invited to tender for the Ministry of Defence's single living accommodation modernisation (SLAM) prime contract worth £500m over five years.
A spokesman at Defence Estates said Citex, Debut (consisting of Bovis Lend Lease and Unicorn Consultancy Services), Amec and Carillion will be asked to tender. The firms will need to submit bids by early March 2002.

Initially 17 companies indicated interest in the deal — this was narrowed to seven, the four that have been asked to tender and Laing, Mowlem and Tilbury Douglas.

The contract will provide around 20,000 beds nationwide.

The army is in the process of converting all it's accommodation from shared barrack-style, to single-bed, flat-like units with en-suite bathrooms.
