Democracy? What democracy?

There simply is no such thing as “tenant democracy” in the UK. The people who run housing associations are unaccountable, undemocratic and paternalistic towards their tenants. Associations have had their day and should make way for tenant-run or tenant-owned housing.

I feel sorry for the tenants of Community Housing Association (“Tenants protest as association threatens their forum” 5 March, page 12), but at least they do not have to associate themselves with an insidious landlord and its glazed expression towards “tenant participation”.
