Barbour ABI reports on the future of UK gambling
Details of the 39 competing schemes for new casinos throughout the UK have been revealed in a report from research firm Barbour ABI. There are eight proposals vying for the single regional casino signed off by the government in the recent Gambling Act and a further 31 competing to build eight small casinos and eight large ones.
The eight contending “super casino” developments are:
- Blackpool
- Brent
- Cardiff (700m “Internationla Sports Village” featuring snowdome)
- Glasgow (£70m entertainment complex) including football pitch
- Greenwich (£100m mixed use scheme)
- Manchester (£250m mixed use scheme)
- Newcastle
- Sheffield (£20m development comprising casino, car park and shops)
The report from Barbour ABI said the regional casino would have a minimum total customer area of 5,000m². It will be allowed to have up to 1,250 unlimited jackpot gaming machines.
The large casinos will have a minimum total customer area of 1,500m² and a limit of 150 gaming machines with a maximum jackpot of £4,000.
The small venues will have a minimum total customer area of 750m² and 80 gaming machines with a maximum jackpot of £4,000.
