Nearly 60 per cent of its international sales springs from the US market, which has doubled within the same period.
The company has boosted the international take-up of its products by maintaining local offices in the USA, Europe, Malta, Australia and Asia, offering marketing, sales and technical support to customers in each region.
A new facility has also been opened in Dubai, and further expansions are planned for France and other European countries, plus an additional office on America's West coast.
The company's success in the Queen's Award for Enterprise is also a recognition of its ability to deliver product to almost any location within two days, as well as its staff's multilingual capabilities, products and marketing materials.
Nigel Petrie, group chairman at DM, said the award was a fair reflection of the inroads the company had made into the CCTV export market. DM's ability to meet special applications had opened up new opportunities for security system installers in many countries, driving the demand for its products worldwide.
By creating a secure financial platform for the company, the overseas success had also allowed it to plough further investment into DM's on-going research and development plans.
Mr Petrie added: "Since we launched the world's first commercially viable multiplexer 21 years ago, we have always focused on a simple but effective sales proposition – ease of use, high performance and real value for money – a formula which works just as well overseas as in the UK".
