It's a view of the giant funnel to encompass the 60 member debating chamber of the Welsh Assembly building. The project designed by Richard Rogers Partnership is nearing completion and final inspections are being carried out. Work on timber panelling, flooring and chamber desks for the main debating chamber will begin shortly and the exterior, which makes extensive use of natural materials, is largely finished. Things may be looking good now, but this project has been dogged with controversy. Rogers was taken off the project in 2001, only to come back two years later. Costs escalated from an initial £41m to around £70m to help pay for fit outs and extra security.
