In 1999 Buro Happold recognised the need to improve knowledge sharing and access to information throughout the organisation. Information technology was seen as a key part of this process, and an internal e-business strategy was developed. The resulting Magellan intranet site offers many features which aid the process of information sharing.
Magellan includes an on-line building services design guide. This provides a single point of reference for the Buro Happold method of managing building services engineering projects.
The Magellan project browser allows users to gather data from a wide range of sources. Users can see the submission document, current project data, photographs, financial data and detailed correspondence. Users can see as much or as little information as they need.
They have shown real initiative with the development of a company-wide intranet that is delivering tangible benefits
And the runners up....
FDT
FDT has had a long-standing commitment to integrating e-business and traditional business operations in the engineering field. A policy of 'IT for all' allows the company to operate seamlessly as a team, even with many engineers in the field. Judges commented that FDT "demonstrated use of collaborative tools to generate business opportunities and aid internal communications".
