Frank Sayers, Eaton Electric’s product manager, says BS 951 – the British Standard for earth clamps used to connect equipotential bonding conductors to gas, water and central heating pipes – stifles innovation by referring only to metallic earth clamps.

The reason for Sayers’ outburst is that Eaton’s Ezybond earth clamp passed all the electrical tests defined in BS 951 and cuts installation time down, too. However, because it is not made of metallic material, as required by the standard, it has not been adopted as widely as the company believes it should be.

Sayers states: “Ezybond earth clamps offer the same degree of safety as defined in BS 951: 1999 and Eaton offers a certificate of conformity to all designers, enabling Ezybond to be used in accordance with BS 7671.” A copy of this can be downloaded from www.mem 250.com.
