Matthews made construction expert for new £30m Parliament Square building

EC Harris head of public sector Graham Matthews has been made the independent construction expert to deliver the UK's new Supreme Court building.

Matthews will oversee the scheme for the Department for Constitutional Affairs, which will see the new body housed in a redeveloped existing crown court at the Middlesex Guildhall in Parliament Square. The new headquarters is expected to be open in October 2008. Matthews said of his appointment: "I am delighted to bring my experience of major construction projects and programmes to such a high-profile project."

The new Supreme Court will see the creation of a new freestanding court separating the highest appeal court from the House of Lords and mean the existing 12 law lords will no longer be member of the Hosue of Lords and will become supreme court justices.
