Members are set to benefit from increased awareness among consumers using the TrustMark scheme to look for competent tradespeople.

TrustMark has approved the ECA as its 11th licensed scheme operator. David Pollock, ECA director, said: “We are delighted to have achieved approved scheme operator status under TrustMark. Our aim is to ensure that consumers recognise ECA members as meeting the highest standards within the industry. We believe TrustMark is another positive step that sets apart qualified, reputable tradesmen. Our involvement in the scheme is part of the ECA’s ongoing commitment to safety within the industry.”

Trustmark is the government endorsed initiative that aims to point consumers toward competent firms operating in the domestic sector. When a firm displays the TrustMark logo it signifies that the firm’s technical skills have been checked; it has signed up to a code of practice that includes insurance, health and safety practices and customer care; the firm will notify clients of any Building Regulations they must meet; and, if a customer has a problem with the firm, there will be a clear complaints procedure to sort out the dispute.

Electrical contractors will now be able to choose between four bodies that can register them with TrustMark. The other three scheme operators are NAPIT, NICEIC and AJA Registrars.

There are currently more than 2800 electrical firms registered. Electricians are already one of the best represented trades within the scheme so far, and the second most searched for trade by consumers using the TrustMark website.
