Cabinet office minister Ed Miliband has been appointed the secretary of state for the newly-created Department for Energy and Climate Change.

The move was announced this morning as part of Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s cabinet reshuffle.

Further details about the Department for Energy and Climate Change are still to be released and how the newly-created department will affect the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is unclear at this point.
