Edinburgh City Council is to consult tenants about introducing an incentive scheme based closely on Irwell Valley’s Gold Service scheme.
Edinburgh has provisionally called its scheme Just Rewards.

It is the second Scottish city to have shown interest in the idea of tenant incentives. Aberdeen announced plans to set up a similar scheme (HT 14 March, page 11).

The news also follows a Chartered Institute of Housing report last week that found incentive schemes could encourage tenants to stick to their tenancy agreements and give them more of a stake in their communities (HT 21 March, page 11).

Sheila Gilmore, Edinburgh’s executive member for housing, said: “We are going to change our focus so responsible tenants get our attention and our action. The tenants who keep to their agreement with us are going to be recognised as our most valued customers.”

Tenants’ views will be considered before plans for the scheme go to the council in an estimated two to three months’ time.
