Exposure limits for electromagnetic fields have been reduced by 80% in response to concerns that vulnerable people might be at risk.
The National Radiation Protection Board said the safety thresholds for exposure to power lines, mobile phones and radio transmitters should be reduced to bring Britain into step with international guidelines.
A review of more than 1000 scientific papers on the risks of electromagnetic fields in the home and at work found no evidence that British thresholds were unsafe.
But because of 'uncertainties' in the data it concluded that domestic limits should be lowered 'on a precautionary principle.'
BSRIA has recommended that managers should adopt this principle in office environments, particularly where people work for long hours and older or younger people work. There are also added dangers for those who have a hyper-sensitivity to electromagnetic fields.
