The National Housing Federation is facing its second high-profile departure in the space of a month.
The head of its London region, Sue Ellenby, is leaving to join the Metropolitan Housing Trust as regional director for the south Thames region.
She said: "I had a wonderful time at the London Fed, but I want to get back into housing and the day-to-day issues."
Ellenby's decision follows the news last month that NHF deputy chief executive James Tickell will leave in May.
Ellenby will start at London-based MHT in June. She will replace Sue Bayes.
A London Federation spokeswoman said Ellenby's old job would be advertised.
n Colin Mayhead has agreed to take up the post of chief executive at New Prospect, the Salford arm's-length management organisation. He has been interim chief since September 2003.
