If someone else advises me to turn my TV off stand-by...

This week is Energy Saving Week. If someone else advises me to turn my TV off stand-by I will be hurling something hard at said TV. Anger aside, here's two tips/thoughts I have for saving energy:

1) Office buildings at night. Is there any need to leave the lights on? Is it security, or for the cleaners? I'm a bit baffled by the practice - any enlightenment from yourselves on this would be appreciated.

2) Public transport. Tubes and buses must have systems that dictate when a certain date comes they whack the heating on. In the recent ridiculous weather conditions (caused by global warming no doubt) this is not only a waste but profoundly uncomfortable. Sweating in public transport is all very well in August but at the end of October? Please stop it.
