The housing shortage in Northern Ireland is not new (“Urgent action needed to prevent crisis in NI social housing, says report”, HT 29 October).

Transfering power to the NI Housing Executive wouldn’t make any difference. It is the macro economics and the invisible forces of demand and supply that matter. We need joined-up thinking with other relevant agencies and professionals to draw up a strategic master plan.

It is important for Northern Ireland to unite on issues like this. Bickering will only slow things down. The housing crisis is widespread in the UK. It’s time for the government to apply the long-awaited housing formula to resolve this problem.
