CIBSE will join ten other professional institutions at this year's World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.
They will take part in a practitioners' conference which will run alongside September's Earth Summit, otherwise known as Rio +10.

CIBSE's new Carbon Task Group, chaired by Terry Wyatt of Hoare Lee, will coordinate papers contributed by CIBSE members. The working title of the conference is 'Building sustainability: aspiration and reality'. The aim is to give professionals in construction the chance to demonstrate their achievements for sustainable development.

Terry Wyatt says: "This is going to be a hugely important area of work for CIBSE members, giving a unique chance to influence the future course of society. I urge you all to take this opportunity to get involved."

In preparation for the Earth Summit, the RICS foundation and the Construction Industry Council are organising a two-day event in May. This will act as a refereeing process for the papers to be given in Johannesburg.
