The Electric Dragon initiative is a joint effort by manufacturers of wiring accessories and circuit breakers co-ordinated by EIEMA. Raids were conducted by the Chinese authorities acting on intelligence received from EIEMA.
In all, 16 illegal factories in China were raided. Over half a million counterfeit products were found and most were confiscated and eventually destroyed, including moulds and templates.
The co-operative action approach has proved much more successful than single manufacturer raids.
Many of the products seized could be dangerous if installed. EIEMA director David Dossett urged contractors to be wary of potential counterfeit goods: "It is incumbent on everyone in the supply chain to ensure the authenticity of products that they buy – the alternative could be very costly indeed."
