the environment minister has attacked his own government's planning policy.
Speaking to a newspaper last week of the government's assessment that the South-east could support an extra 200,000 new homes, Michael Meacher said: "Clearly we need more houses but I would like a regional policy that spreads industry across Britain."
Meacher also hit out at Labour's policies on housing, cars and airports – such as the Heathrow airport extension that could be at the expense of 9000 affordable homes (HT 8 August, page 9).
