The ECA and the European Telecommunications Services Association (ETSA) have reached agreement on the implementation in the UK of QualifCom, a pan-European quality assessment scheme
QualifCom is already used extensively throughout Europe by telecoms operators, users and installers. It covers installation and service, together with pre-stated service response times.

The scheme is designed to bring added value to the telecoms market. End-users, by choosing a qualified partner, will benefit from professional service designed to meet their needs. The qualified installation company will offer reassurance that products are installed to the highest standards and industry best practices.

QualifCom has three rating fields: infrastructures – cabling and installation; systems – service and maintenance; consulting – engineering and consulting.

Phil Buckle, head of ECA technical services, commented: "For some time now we have seen a growing demand for an industry-specific scheme for datacoms – QualifCom fulfils this role. Achieving QualifCom certification will enhance the development of the UK datacoms sector and assist UK installers working abroad by providing a qualification that is recognised throughout Europe."

QualifCom is an addition to a range of technical assessment schemes already operated by the ECA to support its Warranty, Bond, Inspection on Demand and Fair Trading policies.
