SIR – No doubt many of your readers watched the news reports detailing the tragic aftermath of the Tsunami following what was an horrific earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.

Already, a phenomenal amount of support has been offered and given by the British public in the form of monetary donations. I'm writing to let your readers know about another way they can help – by donating old mobile telephones and printer cartridges.

These are items which often end up in the bin, yet they have the potential to raise a massive amount of money. As a representative of Eurosource, a company which specialises in running charity recycling appeals, I want as many people as possible to know about this fundraising opportunity. Eurosource has pledged to donate money to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) for every mobile and cartridge which is recycled. As this is the umbrella organisation for various aid agencies, we feel the DEC is best placed to ensure that the funds raised really do go to those who need them most.

So, readers of Security Management Today… I’m urging you to donate to our Tsunami Recycling Appeal. To find out what types of mobiles and cartridges we can recycle, and how much we’ll give to the DEC for the items donated, visit the Internet site: www.recyclingappeal.com/tsunami

If you have a mobile telephone or printer cartridge you wish to donate, all you need do is visit the web site or call 08712 505050. Ask for a Freepost bag for the Tsunami Recycling Appeal, then drop your item(s) in the post.

Many thanks to all of your readers!
