Eye spy: Leeds-based integrated security specialist the White Group has won the contract to provide a CCTV system for monitoring security and safety at the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
The £22 million footbridge and cycleway linking Gateshead with Newcastle is scheduled to open this summer, and has been designed by architect Wilkinson Eyre to mimic the opening and closing of a giant 'eyelid'. The bridge uses a 'world-first' tilting mechanism, turning on pivots on both sides of the river to open.

The White Group will supply and install a video-monitored CCTV system with three fully-functional infrared cameras boasting multiplex control. The system will be used to monitor people crossing the bridge, as well as traffic on the waterway.
