Series 640 and 620 barriers supplied by FAAC (UK) have been installed at car parks for major hotel and cinema developments in Scotland

Access control

Barriers from FAAC (UK) are PROVIDING ACCESS control for major sites in Stirling and Edinburgh. Lowland Ensor Doors has just installed the company’s barriers – in addition to traffic management systems – at the Quality Hotel, Edinburgh International Airport and at the Carlton Cinema development in Stirling.

Being close to the international airport, the Quality Hotel was encountering difficulties with its car park being used as a free, long term parking facility for holidaymakers’ vehicles. Similarly, the car park at the Carlton Cinema was a magnet for shoppers, leaving no room for patrons. Security at both was an issue.

At the former site, Lowland Ensor Doors has added barriers for both entry and exit. Guests take a ticket from the FAAC 620 machine on entry, exchanging it for a token from the reception desk prior to leaving. The token operates the FAAC 620 remote toll booth. Buses collecting travellers going to the airport are fitted with radio transmitters to automatically open the barriers.

Visitors to the Carlton Cinema also collect a ticket from the FAAC 620 Plus system at the entrance barrier, and pay for a token to operate the exit barrier. The traffic management system also controls the availability of spaces, while indicating when the car parking area is full. Vehicle access for the management personnel at the Carlton is via personal radio controls.

FAAC 640 operators are suitable for barriers from four to seven metres and specification in some of the larger commercial applications. They operate at speeds of between four and eight seconds, and are 100% duty rated. An integral fan activates automatically to cool the system during heavy use, while a secure locking system ensures the beam retains its open and closed positions (with manual release via a customised key in the event of any power failure).
