Faber Maunsell is set to ensure that the new atheletes village for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin meets the sustainability brief set by the client
Faber Maunsell is part of the winning bid to create the athletes village for the Winter Olympic games be held in Turin in 2006. Faber Maunsell will undertake the building services and sustainability aspects of the project.

The site is an old fruit and vegatable market, next to the main Turin railway. The market was designed in the 1930s in concrete and will mostly be retained and reused for the village. The complex will house 3 500 people throughout the games and afterwards it will be used for the Paralympics. Later the building will be converted to public and private housing. The aim is to avoid waste of environmental and financial resource by ensuring that the building has a definite post-games use.

The project will use many sustainable techniques, in-line with the client brief. These include low energy design, use of solar energy, water savings, materials with low embodied energy, and use of existing buildings. Architects are Turin-based Benedetto Camerana.
