The country’s most powerful drug lord, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera, escaped the prison on Saturday through a specially dug tunnel more than 30ft underground that led to an empty building on a construction site nearly a mile away.

The drug lord and the Sinaloa Cartel, which he heads, are known for building sophisticated tunnel systems to transport drugs across the US/Mexico border.
