Less than half of all UK businesses that suffer an arson attack manage to recover from its impact.
Such deplorable statistics portray the critical nature and effects of arson in the workplace, as depicted so graphically in a new training video for security personnel produced by the Fire Protection Association. The video is a short film – it runs for a mere 16 minutes – designed to inform the entire workforce about the causes and effects of arson and, importantly, how to guard against them.
Presented by the articulate BBC reporter Rachel Hicks, the film begins with news footage of a recent arson attack on a commercial premises, and the lessons learnt from it. Insurance cover, it is shown, provides inadequate compensation, and is never a complete answer to the threat.
'Arson at Work' details the common methods employed by arsonists, the warning signs prevalent prior to an attack and indicates the strategy to be adopted by the security team – and the workforce in general – if the threat of arson is to be counteracted.
Ultimately, for a very small outlay this video represents a very worthwhile investment in the future well-being of your organisation.
