In response, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), British Fire Protection Systems Association (BFPSA), ECA and Select have agreed to support the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) with the JIB for the provision of a new Fire and Security Systems card for work on construction sites.
Construction sites operated by the Major Contractors Group (MCG) have begun enforcing the requirement for all personnel to carry a relevant health and safety skills competence card.

The card will ensure that security and fire systems installers have the required competence and knowledge to operate safely while installing equipment.

BFPSA project manager Daryl Alder commented: "The BFPSA is very happy with the new Fire and Security Systems card allowing our members access to MCG construction sites. We see see the co-operation between the trade bodies as an important initial step for the industry, as many BFPSA member companies belong to all of the associations."

ADT Fire and Security, Group 4 Technology and Wessex Fire and Security have already registered. To apply, installers should see the JIB web site (www.jib.org.uk) or telephone 020 8302 0031.
