Scheme includes 20% of homes for affordable tenures
The first phase of a major regeneration scheme in York has been given detailed planning approval.
York Council yesterday approved the first phase of York Central, giving the green light for more than 1,000 homes, a commercial district, a 213-bedroom hotel, and a new western entrance to York railway station.
The scheme, on a 110-acres site including former railway land, is being developed by a joint venture between developers McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate as part of a private-public partnership with Network Rail and Homes England.
The first phase includes 20% affordable housing, including 163 homes for social rent and 40 for intermediate rent.
New public squares, an extensive public park and a network of courtyards, cycle ways and footpaths will be created to connect this new quarter to the rest of the city.
Construction will start on site next year following site investigation works.
The York Central masterplan is being developed by Allies & Morrison. Other architectural practices working on the wider project include Sheppard Robson, Cartwright Pickard, Corstorphine & Wright and Haworth Tomkins.
