The winners of the first of the regional Electrotechnical Modern Apprenticeship Competitions (eMAc) in England and Wales have been announced. Paul Frost of Llanishen, Cardiff won the top prize of £500 and a gold medal while William Ryder of Arlingham, Gloucester claimed silver medal and £250 at the competition which took place at Coleg Glan Hafren, Rumney, Cardiff on 11 and 12 April.

   The event was organised and sponsored by JTL. It involved six apprentice electricians completing an installation project against the clock. Frost was supported by his employer Balfour Beatty Power Networks while Ryder has the backing of MEB Contracting.

   There are two more regional events in England and Wales. The best from these and similar events in Scotland and N Ireland will go on to compete at the eMAc National Final at the National Skills Show, Manchester in November 2002.
