New software offers messaging, database and intranet functions
Facilities management software provider FMx has launched Global FM, a program designed to give facilities managers global control of their building maintenance, cost control, asset tracking, space planning, room booking and property management facilities.

The software incorporates FMx's computer-aided facilities management Explorer database, which also gives users access to AutoCAD planning and information management features.

This database is being used in conjunction with the Microsoft MSMQ messaging service in order to provide users with e-mail and reporting capability.

Tony Leppard, managing director of FMx, said: 'Global FM takes information from a local level and reports it to a global level. It can then be distributed at whatever level you want.'

The system is intranet-based to allow easy distribution of data, says the company.

'The intranet function combines with these features,' explained Leppard, 'to provide a complete global business package offering users added functions such as purchasing online.'

Global FM can run through an existing intranet and those without an intranet can use it as a platform to establish one.

Leppard claims that one of its customers, the Bank of Scotland, has used Global FM to cut down on the costs involved in managing its helpdesk facility. He said the bank has an automated helpdesk run through the Global FM intranet function.
