You’ve read the consultation, but what happens when the proposals are put to the test?
The Future Homes Standard proposes phasing out fossil-fuel-fired boilers by 2025 – and the consultation on an interim standard for 2020 was launched last month. This will reduce carbon emissions from new homes before the full standard takes effect and help the industry to make the transition. Proposals to update Parts L (energy) and F (ventilation) of the Building Regulations, with changes for 2020 and for 2025, were launched at the same time.
The changes planned for 2020 include a major uplift in energy performance. The government’s preferred option – known as Option 2 – is a 31% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the standards in 2013 Part L.
