The Little Britain Challenge Cup attracts 2,500 sailors and sees concrete firm Gunite win the main event.

Concrete firm Gunite emerged triumphant at this year's 2004 Little Britain Challenge Cup sailing regatta, held in Cowes last weekend.

The firm's boat Exabyte 2 took the class 1 award after two good days sailing, including near perfect conditions for the long race on Saturday. The event, part sponsored by Building, attracted 232 boats, including 69 new participants, and 2,500 eager sailors, making it easily the biggest European industry sailing festival.

As ever the event included a hectic social side, including performances from bands such as The Enormous Small Band, the Grand Union Carnival Band and the Las Vegas All Stars. The Gala Dinner also turned out to be the largest sit down meal seen on the Isle of Wight. A game of the heads and tails game raised over £12,000 in 15 minutes at the dinner.
