Bovis is escorted off the contractors' monthly top spot but retains annual authority with £100m airport work.
A £99m PFI police stations job moved Laing to the top of the contractors league for January.

Although this knocked Bovis Lend Lease off its monthly perch, a £100m airport contract for Peel Holdings means that the Australian firm is still flying high in the yearly chart – and increasing its lead over second-placed Skanska to more than £600m.

The industry's reliance on public sector work was underlined by the domination of the clients league by the Department of Health. In the past two months the DoH has issued 334 contracts valued at more than £2.25bn. The Home Office and the Ministry of Defence were also in the top four.

For a signature architect, Foster and Partners is performing like a commercial firm, winning eight contracts worth more than £700m – but was still edged off the top spot by HOK International.
