McAlpine takes top spot on yearly table as Bowmer & Kirkland climbs from 16th to first place for March.
It has finally happened. Sir Robert McAlpine has overtaken Bovis Lend Lease after slowly closing the gap over the past few months. In the yearly table McAlpine had a lead of £185m over its rival in March and looks like having a memorable year.

In the monthly table, Bowmer & Kirkland has snatched top spot thanks to eight contracts worth £107.5m. The Derbyshire-based firm's biggest job – a £60m business park in Manchester – helped it to keep rivals Kier and Laing off the top.

J Sainsbury has regained first place in the clients' yearly table from fellow food giant Tesco, letting 52 contracts worth £465.4m.

And Building Design Partnership has maintained its lead in the architects' yearly table with 16 projects worth £417.8m.
